How Do I Install Norton System Works?

Norton System Works Introduction

Norton System Works is billed as being the single solution to defend and enhance your entire system. Removing Other Norton Applications

If you have any previous Norton versions or applications installed on your system then you should remove them properly and completely before you begin installing System Works. System Works and other Norton applications use files with the same name but typically of different versions. If any of the older versions still exist on your PC when you attempt to install or run System Works you may suffer some serious errors, and software conflicts.

Removal of Norton products should be done using the appropriate uninstaller. Most applications come complete with these utilities and they can be found by clicking the Start button, then All Programs, navigating to the program folder, and selecting the Uninstall option. Alternatively you can use the Windows Add or Remove utility or an uninstaller acquired from the official Symantec website.

Beginning The Installation

Once you have removed other Norton applications and have either purchased a download version of System Works or you have a disk with the software on you should close down any running applications before commencing. Either double click the file that you downloaded to open the installer or insert the disk into your computer. Either method will bring up the same installer menu. Click on the Install Norton System Works option to proceed.

Progressing Through Installation

Continue through the installation by clicking the Next button. Select the folder where you want the program files to be placed or leave the installer to use the default folder on your computer. You will also need to read and accept a license agreement during the installation process. As you are nearing the end of the installation you will be requested to either sign up for a Symantec account or log into an existing one.

The Symantec Online Account

A Symantec account is essential for the completion of the installation and is used so that you can download updates to the software and databases. Once you have signed up you will be able to complete the installation process. Once complete you will also be given the opportunity to perform a quick scan of your computer to look for existing threats. It is up to you whether you choose to leave this scan to run or disable it and run a full scan when you return to your main desktop.
