Installing Norton Internet Security 2008 On A Vista Machine
Norton Internet Security 2007
Norton Internet Security 2008 is a modern suite of security tools designed predominantly for users with Windows computers. Specifically it was launched to protect users of XP against online threats but the latest incarnation of the suite has also seen it add Vista compatibility to its long list of impressive features. Vista is an equally powerful operating system but because it is still very much in its infancy and is quite a step away from XP some applications and publishers have struggled to make the transition in order to offer this compatibility. Norton users will be happy to learn that this definitely isn't the case with Internet Security 2007.
Removing Old Norton Products
Before you commence with the installation of Norton Internet Security 2008 on any platform it is very important that you remove all traces of other Norton security applications from your computer. These can, and typically do, interact with some of the programs included in this installation. Removing old applications should be done using either the application's uninstaller, Windows Add or Remove Programs utility, or the Norton uninstaller from Symantec. Once you have removed all old Norton applications you should close down any other applications and processes that are currently running on your system in order to prevent any other problems occurring.
Beginning The Installation Process
How to begin the installation process will depend on the method you used to attain the product. If you opted to buy the package from the website or from a high street store then you should insert the DVD into the DVD drive of your computer. This will bring up the installation menu on your computer. Alternatively if you purchased the download version of the software you should double click on the file in order to be taken to the same point.
Installation Options
Click on the Install Norton Internet Security 2008 option and follow the on screen instructions. In most cases you should choose the default settings. This means installing the application in the given folder on your computer, and using the custom install option. This will install all aspects of the suite on your system and in easily retrievable and navigatable locations. Alternatively you can select different locations or choose from a list of components to install by selecting the appropriate options.
Registering A Norton Account
You will be required to register an online account if you do not already have a Norton account. This enables you to take advantage of the phishing and spam protection and also ensures that you can retrieve all of the latest upgrades and downloads for your installation. Once you have completed registering a new account or logging in to an existing account you should continue with the installation as per the on screen instructions.
Completing Installation And The Next Step
Once installation has completed Norton will attempt to perform a quick scan of your system to determine whether there are any existing problems that need addressing immediately. You can choose to allow or disable this feature and move on to customizing the settings as per your own requirements through the main control panel.
